Controlled Substances

Drugs and other substances that are considered ‘controlled’ under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) are divided into five schedules. A State of Michigan researcher license and a federal DEA researcher registration are required for the purchase of controlled substances. MSU Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) has several resources for questions about obtaining controlled substances.

EHS Research Use of Controlled Substances: Frequently Asked Questions

  • Provides information on applying for registration, authorized use of controlled substances, and record-keeping and inventory

EHS Tips for Purchasing Controlled Substances

  • Provides steps for ordering controlled substances through MSU Purchasing once State of Michigan licensure and DEA registration are obtained
