Act 368, Public Acts of 1978, Section 2671: Public Health Code

Applies to all vertebrate animals used in research, education and testing. Requires humane care and use of animals with the NIH guide being used as the standard for evaluation when animal facilities are inspected.  Act 368 also sets minimum standards for conducting research with live animals and requires research facilities doing such research to register and be inspected.  

Act 466 of 1988 Animal Industry Act

Authorizes state veterinarian to protect the human food chain, livestock, and aquaculture industries from diseases or toxins.

Act 224, 1969: Section 287 Use of Dogs and Cats for Research

Requires humane care and use of all dogs and cats in research. Standard of evaluation of animal facilities is based on the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations.
